Getting started
Assessment
Initial consultation
No referral is needed to get started. Our friendly reception team will help you find a time that works for you, and where possible, we will match you and your child with a therapist based on their needs and your preferences.
The initial consultation usually takes place with parents or carers only, in person. This is where your therapist takes the time to properly understand your concerns, your child's developmental history, and what you are hoping to achieve, before building a plan together for what comes next.
The second session typically happens at our clinic, where your therapist will meet, observe and interact with your child in a warm, playful environment. If your therapist feels it would help to see your child in their everyday surroundings, a school, kindergarten or daycare observation may also be recommended.
The assessment itself
Every child is unique, so our assessment approach is shaped around your child's individual needs and goals rather than a one size fits all process. Assessment may take place across several sessions, and draws on both formal and informal tools to build a complete picture of your child's strengths and the areas they find more difficult.
Assessment tools we may use
  • Observation of functional tasks and developmental skills in natural or clinic settings
  • Sensory Profile, in its toddler, caregiver and school versions
  • Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency
  • Movement ABC
  • Beery Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration
  • Pretend Play Enjoyment Developmental Checklist
  • Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting
  • Canadian Occupational Performance Measure
  • Functional Emotional Assessment Scale
  • Routine Based Inventory
Through this process, we aim to understand not just where your child is finding things difficult, but their unique strengths and interests too. These insights help us design a therapy plan that supports meaningful progress and builds genuine confidence in everyday life.

One on one therapy
Intervention
At Amazing Kids OT, we believe meaningful change happens when therapy is built on connection, collaboration and play.
Together with you and your child, we will develop a therapy plan shaped around their needs, preferences and goals, including the techniques that suit them best, the most suitable location, whether that is our clinic, home, school or kindergarten, and the frequency and duration of sessions.
Our sessions focus on building the underlying skills children need to thrive in daily life, from motor skills, emotional regulation and sensory processing, through to self care, social participation and learning. We use fun, motivating and neuroaffirming approaches so every child feels safe, connected and confident.
We value working in partnership with parents and carers, and you are warmly encouraged to attend and take part in sessions, since you know your child best. By modelling and coaching strategies together, we help ensure the skills carry over into everyday life at home, school and in the community.
After each session, you will receive session notes and practical home program ideas so you can keep building on your child's progress between visits.
Our goal at Amazing Kids OT is to help children, and the families who support them, find greater independence, participation and joy in everyday life.

Support beyond the clinic
Parent Coaching
At Amazing Kids OT, we know parents and carers are the most important people in a child's life. You are the expert on your child, and we are here to support, guide and walk alongside you.
Our parent coaching and education sessions are designed to build your confidence and give you practical strategies to support your child's growth, regulation and independence in daily life. Together, we explore your child's unique strengths and challenges, and help you understand the why behind their behaviour.
Through coaching, we provide individual guidance on
  • Working on Big Baffling Behaviours
  • Supporting emotional regulation and co-regulation
  • Creating sensory friendly routines and environments
  • Building play and connection at home
  • Managing transitions and challenging moments
  • Developing problem solving and flexible thinking
Parent sessions can take place in person or online, and may sit alongside your child's own therapy sessions or be offered as dedicated parent support on their own. When parents feel confident and supported, children feel more secure and capable too, building a foundation for growth and connection at home and beyond.
